Bring Bloco Mamutão to your town!

If you are thinking of bringing Bloco Mamutão to your town, here is a quick cheat sheet on what we need from you! All the rest will be taken care of by the diretoria of Mamutão :)

The structure of a Bloco Mamutão event is as follows:

Optional get-together to socialize
- free entry
- no entertainment necessary
- a pub or backyard is great

Optional morning/afternoon activations, allowing people to travel home without taking an additional day off

Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Mamutão is not the only attraction, but part of an event

Saturday from 9-11am, for 5-6 hours

Friday
Rehearsal
Show
Sunday

Timeline

  • Details to be finalized 3 months out from the event between local organizers and Mamutão directors

  • Invitation will be sent out to all members 2 months out from the event - including all key information (dates, rehearsal time and address, accommodation options, cost) by Mamutão diretoria

Show

  • Mamutão show to be between 30-60 minutes - not the only attraction

  • Saturday evening/night, or Sunday morning, to allow people to travel without taking extra days off

  • Needs to accommodate a 50+ bateria in terms of space and noise levels

  • Audience needs to be receptive to a bateria show

  • Playing stationary is preferred, but parading is also an option if the distance is not too long

  • Option to play with amplified sound is a plus

Rehearsal space

  • at least 1500sqf/150m²

  • Sound proofed/no noise complaints between Saturday 9am and 5pm

  • Access to bathrooms

  • Easy access by transit if possible

  • 2-3 tables with chairs to facilitate participant registration

Instruments

  • If there are surdos to be borrowed locally, it’s a great help, but not required

  • Instruments are ‘bring-your-own’ (as an organizer you are not responsible to provide instruments to participants)

Logistics

  • If someone has a van or truck locally which can carry instruments safely, it’s helpful but not required

  • One or two local helpers who do not play can be very useful with logistics

Food

  • Source a cheap and fast lunch (pre-order menu at a nearby restaurant, catered sandwiches, etc) close to the rehearsal spot

Accommodation

  • Please encourage the local samba community to host people travelling to the event (even on couches or air mattresses)

  • If a local hotel can offer a discounted rate for participants, it’s very helpful

  • If there is a community hall/gym/classroom where people can stay on mattresses, it can be an option
